Dos Gallos
#53-17
#53-17
Pair of 19th century Guatemalan carved wooden nativity animals, depicting a recumbent horse and ox.
Both figures retain traces of their original polychrome - the horse in mottled cream and brown, shows simple incised detailing to the mane, while the ox, in warm reddish brown with traces of blue and black at the hooves, features applied wooden horns and a slightly upturned gaze. Folk-carved with rustic charm characteristic of rural Guatemalan devotional art, these figures once accompanied a large nacimiento (nativity) display, embodying both piety and local craftsmanship.
