19th c. Honduran Crucifix

A 19th-century Honduran polychrome wooden crucifix, carved in a provincial folk tradition and mounted on a later stand. Christ is depicted with outstretched arms, wearing a simply modeled loincloth, with restrained painted details to the face and body. The carving is direct and expressive, characteristic of rural devotional sculpture from the region.

The figure shows notable age-related wear, including surface losses to the polychrome and minor losses to the hands, with two fingers missing—likely the result of long devotional use and handling over time. The overall patina and condition contribute to the work’s authenticity and historical presence as an object of faith and folk craftsmanship.
