Polychrome Santo Niño Figure
19th century, Guatemala.
Carved and polychromed wood figure of the Christ Child, depicted with delicate features and a naturalistic expression. The Niño is shown in a seated/standing pose, with raised hands in blessing, wearing only a painted cloth diaper. Flesh tones are rendered in soft pinks and ochres, with finely detailed facial painting including rosy cheeks, lips, and dark hair. Such devotional figures were central to household and church altars, often dressed in textiles and used during nativity celebrations or processions.
Four missing fingers and one toe. Paint chipping on face and body
