19th-Century Guatemalan Wood Top with 19th-Century Japanese Elm Stool Bases

A composite bench or console formed from two distinct 19th-century elements from different cultural traditions. The top is a substantial 19th-century Guatemalan wood plank, measuring approximately four inches thick, displaying a deeply weathered surface with pronounced grain, organic edge variation, and a richly developed patina acquired through decades of use.

Supporting the top are two 19th-century Japanese stools crafted from elm, featuring restrained, utilitarian forms and traditional joinery. Their light, understated structure provides a compelling visual contrast to the mass and solidity of the Guatemalan slab above.

The juxtaposition of Central American and Japanese vernacular craftsmanship results in a striking, sculptural object that feels both grounded and refined. Suitable for use as a bench, console, or low table, this piece bridges cultures and centuries while retaining the integrity and character of its original components.

98x11x25.25H - The depths of bases are about 16"
