Pair of Japanese Tansus can also be stacked as one piece
Pair of 19th-century Japanese Isho-dansu (clothing chests) that beautifully bridge the gap between Edo/Meiji era craftsmanship and contemporary industrial design. Originally stacked on top of each other, now each tansu has a custom base to make them functional for modern interiors as side tables on nightstands.
Elm (Keyaki), with traditional bamboo nail construction.
The chests are adorned with heavy hand-forged iron hardware. The highlight is the oversized fan-shaped lock plates (maete)
Left Tansu: A classic two-drawer configuration
Right Tansu: A more complex arrangement featuring two large drawers and a vertical column of two small drawers, traditionally used for storing smaller personal effects or valuables.
Each measures 35.5x16.5x24H
