#53-44 Antique Japanese Tansus on Hand Forged Iron Stands

This matched pair of Japanese tansu chests combines antique craftsmanship with a modern presentation. 
Both pieces have hand-forged iron hardware characteristic of period tansu: ornate hinged latch plates with scalloped, floral-cut detailing secure the upper drawers, while heavy swinging bail handles provide the primary pulls. Wraparound corner brackets and edge straps reinforce the structure at every seam, and the mix of decorative pierced metalwork and functional joinery hardware gives each piece real visual weight against the pale wood.

The two chests differ slightly in layout. The one on the left holds two full-width drawers stacked one above the other, kept simple and symmetrical. The one on the right is a touch more elaborate, pairing two full-width drawers with a small side compartment set behind its own door and latch, likely intended as a hikidashi-style space for smaller or more valuable items.

Both chests have been mounted on newly added black powder-coated iron stands with slender square legs, well suited for use as nightstands, a media console, or an entryway console. These can also be stacked on top of each other.
