Traditional Japanese merchant's or household tansu storage chest

probably from the early 1900s to 1930s. This tansu features five drawer fronts, including two smaller drawers at the bottom, circular lock plates, paired iron bail pulls, and decorative corner reinforcements. Mortise and tenon construction with bamboo nails throughout.
Tansu sits on a contemporary, hand forged stand in a matte black finish.
