Spanish Colonial Polychrome Nino
This is a beautiful example of a Spanish Colonial Nino/ Christ Child/Jesus. It has beautiful, life like brown glass eyes, which were a later Spanish Colonial feature (earlier figures had painted eyes). Brown was the most typical, symbolizing realism and humility. It is polychrome with carved hair. Carved hair (instead of wig hair) suggests a slightly earlier or more modest figure, maybe mid-1700s to early 1800s.
All fingers and toes are intact. The face is childlike, nose and ears beautifully carved.
Normal paint loss throughout Nino. Paint naturally flakes off polychrome surfaces over decades/centuries. In otherwise great condition
